UK house sales rising after Boris Johnson's election win – Savills

Estate agent says buyers are regaining confidence but full effect of Brexit is still unknown

The estate agent Savills has said it is benefiting from a “Boris bounce” that has driven an increase in UK house sales since the December general election.

The company, which sells and manages commercial and residential property around the world, told investors and analysts that it expects its 2019 full-year sales and profits will be at “the upper end of the board’s expectations”.

Should my parents sell their house if my mother moves into a care home?

My stepfather plans to use his cash savings to buy another property before selling his current one

Q I am thinking about buying a property jointly with my stepdad. He currently owns his own property jointly with my mother. The value is about £300,000. My mother suffers from dementia and until recently has been cared for by my stepfather, but he is no longer able to cope so it has been recently decided that my mother should move into a care home.

My stepfather has been advised to split their joint cash savings so that my mother’s half can be used to pay for her care fees.
