Luxury block Royal Wharf reverses decision that kept L&Q tenants from its facilities

Affordable housing tenants who had been told they could not access a gym and swimming pool built as part of an east London luxury apartment complex have welcomed an apparent reversal of the decision.

Ballymore, the private developer behind the 3,400-home Royal Wharf complex, has said renters in 243 apartments owned by the housing charity L&Q will now have access to the facilities.

Lender says average house value rose 1.6% in October from a year ago, the slowest annual pace in five years

House prices across the UK are rising at the slowest annual pace in more than five years, according to Britain’s biggest building society.

The average property value rose 1.6% in October from a year ago, down from September’s 2% and the lowest annual growth rate since May 2013, Nationwide said.

Residents in affordable homes at Royal Wharf in Newham say they are victims of segregation

Affordable housing residents in a new enclave of 3,400 homes are being prevented from using a luxury swimming pool and gymnasium, which are being kept for the exclusive use of private owners and renters.

Residents paying taxpayer-subsidised rents at Royal Wharf in the London borough of Newham have complained they are victims of segregation because they will not have access to a state-of-the-art clubhouse that neighbours who own or rent privately will enjoy.
